Pricing & Profit
Gang Sheet Pricing Calculator
In short
Price a gang sheet from its area, your cost per square inch and your handling cost, then add a target margin or markup. The table shows the price, profit and price per linear inch, square inch and linear foot for each length.

Fix these to see the results:
Prices by sheet length
| Length | Cost | Price | Profit | / linear in | / sq in | / linear ft |
|---|
- Competitor price per sq in
- —
- Competitor price per linear inch
- —
How this works
area = sheet width × length
cost = area × cost per sq in + labour and handling + allowance
price (margin m) = cost ÷ (1 − m ÷ 100)
price (markup k) = cost × (1 + k ÷ 100)
per linear inch = price ÷ length; per sq in = price ÷ area; per linear foot = per linear inch × 12
Assumptions
- Platform and app fees are not included; add them to labour and handling, or to the margin (for example a 3–5% usage fee).
- Margin must be below 100%. Markup can be any positive value.
How to use it
- Enter the sheet width (22 in is common; 30 in also exists).
- Enter your cost per square inch of film at average coverage (from the cost per print calculator).
- Add labour and handling per sheet, and an optional packaging allowance.
- Choose target margin or markup and enter the percentage.
- Edit the list of sheet lengths you sell.
- Optionally enter a competitor's price and size to compare price per square inch.
Worked example
With a cost of $0.01 per sq in, $1 labour per sheet and a 50% margin, a 22 × 24 in sheet has an area of 528 sq in.
Cost = 528 × 0.01 + 1 = $6.28, and price = 6.28 ÷ (1 − 0.50) = $12.56.
A 100% markup gives the same price: 6.28 × 2 = $12.56.
Methodology and formula
- Area = width × length.
- Cost = area × cost per sq in + labour and handling (+ allowance).
- Price with margin m: cost ÷ (1 − m ÷ 100), where m is below 100.
- Price with markup k: cost × (1 + k ÷ 100).
- Per linear inch = price ÷ length; per sq in = price ÷ area; per linear foot = per linear inch × 12.
Assumptions and limitations
- Platform and app fees are not included. Add them to labour and handling, or to the margin (for example a 3–5% per-sheet usage fee).
- A margin of 100% or more is impossible and shows an error.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is profit as a share of the price; markup is profit as a share of the cost. A 50% margin equals a 100% markup.
How do I include app or usage fees?
Add a per-sheet fee to labour and handling, or raise the margin by the fee percentage.
Why compare price per square inch?
Sellers use different widths and lengths. Price per square inch (and per linear inch at the same width) puts offers on the same basis.
Where does the cost per square inch come from?
Use the cost per print calculator: its cost per square inch at your average coverage is the figure to enter here.
